The College Advisement office is focused on guiding
students through the college selection process. The
College Advisor offers support and experience to ensure
LCA students and parents are well versed in the nuances of
the college process. While stress sometimes accompanies
the process, we are committed to shaping the experience
into an opportunity for growth for all parties involved.
It is a privilege to work with such a dynamic and vibrant
group of students, and to help them identify college
matches that will inspire them to reach their fullest
potential.
Each September, LCA has a College Planning Meeting to
provide parents and students with information about the
college search and application process. In January,
the Financial Aid Meeting provides FAFSA helps and general
financial aid information. At each of these
meetings, a college admissions or financial aid
professional is present to share information about college
planning and financial aid in general in addition to
specific programs available at their college.
Students have many opportunities to talk with college
representatives who visit LCA. In addition, families and
students may contact Mrs. Davis, the College Advisor, at
any time for further information.
College Information for 9th and 10th Grade Students and Parents
Students have a fresh start in the 9th grade. Their high
school courses and grades in grades 9-12 will form the
transcript sent to colleges. College admission is based
most strongly on a student's high school grades and the
rigor or difficulty of the courses they have taken (within
the context of school course offerings.)
The time to visit and apply to college may seem far away,
but everything a student does in grades 9-12, including
grades, activities, leadership roles, travel, jobs, and
accomplishments will be part of that application process.
College and scholarship applications often request
information about a student's extracurricular activities.
Parents can help students keep a record of all honors and
awards, activities including sports and clubs, community
service, church activities, travel, hobbies, jobs, camps,
courses, and anything else that sets the student apart. It
is important to note any leadership positions.
College Information for 11th and 12th Grade
Students and Parents
Juniors and seniors receive LCA's College Planning and
College Admissions Handbooks which include planning
calendars, college fair dates and locations, SAT and ACT
dates and strategies, college profiles, campus visit
questions, and financial aid helps. These handbooks are
available for 9th and 10th grade students upon request.
Juniors and seniors may take two days for college visits,
bringing in the signed college visit form so that the
visit will be an excused absence. Students needing
additional days should contact Mrs. Myers or Mrs. Davis
before planning the visit.
